Photographic views of Paris, 2023-2026

Pigment prints on archival fibre paper, image size: 18cm x 24cm, framed 

Photographs of present-day Paris, rendered to look like photographic prints made 100 – 150 years ago. These images and the prints have been made in homage to French photographer Eugène Atget (1857-1927)

Atget made thousands of photographs documenting many aspects of old Paris and Paris life from around 1890 to the mid-1920s. He made each print directly from his 18 x 24cm gelatin-silver, dry glass-plate negatives placed onto an albumen and silver salt coated, printing-out-paper process developed in the late 1840s used to make monochrome photographic prints for over 60 years.

I have printed my own 18cm x 24cm, digital, photographic views of Paris with an Epson 11880 using pigment ink, on warm-tone, glossy, fibre paper. Each print is deliberately different.
